June 27th, 2009 Habitat Build Day!

Pledge For Moms is participating in the Habitat build event coming up this Saturday, June 27th – we are going to be priming and painting a house that we’ve worked on in March (see March 21st Event and Slide Show)! It’s really exciting to participate in this last step of the building process and help mothers and families finally realize their dreams. Come join us at this wonderful event at 1708 Holliford Court, Charlotte NC. Don’t forget – in the summer-time, all events are scheduled to run from 8AM to 12PM because of the really hot weather. Please bring plenty of water and some friends!

Dry-walling Ceilings With Habitat

This Saturday, May 20th, we had a really great turn-out at the Habitat for Humanity Charlotte Young Professionals build event, allowing us to finish the dry-walling most of the house by 12PM – sincerest thanks to all who came (especially the RedBull marketing team for providing the drinks and support), and I hope to see you all at the next event! Home ownership is one of the most essential aspects of a successful and enduring community and volunteers just like you help make working families realize this dream – great job!

May 30th, 2009 Habitat Build Day!

For nailing up sheets of drywall, a drywall hammer is a must. It has a convex head that creates a little dimple around the nail head without breaking the paper on the surface of the drywall. This will allow you to cover the nail head with drywall mud and get a perfectly smooth surface. Using drywall screws can go a lot faster, if you have the right tool. You want to use a special electric drywall screw gun that lets you adjust it to sink the screws a little below the surface, again, so you don’t break the paper. With a regular screw gun you don’t have this control.
