Painting Townhomes With Habitat

This Saturday, June 27th, we had a really great turn-out at the Habitat for Humanity Charlotte Young Professionals build event, allowing us to finish painting both townhouse units in 4 hours – sincerest thanks to all who came, especially to Jason, Reed, and Chris of Wachovia Financial, and Chad (our patient site leader). I hope to see you all at the next event! Home ownership is one of the most essential aspects of a successful and enduring community and volunteers just like you help make working families realize this dream – great job!

June 27th, 2009 Habitat Build Day!

Pledge For Moms is participating in the Habitat build event coming up this Saturday, June 27th – we are going to be priming and painting a house that we’ve worked on in March (see March 21st Event and Slide Show)! It’s really exciting to participate in this last step of the building process and help mothers and families finally realize their dreams. Come join us at this wonderful event at 1708 Holliford Court, Charlotte NC. Don’t forget – in the summer-time, all events are scheduled to run from 8AM to 12PM because of the really hot weather. Please bring plenty of water and some friends!

Pledge For Moms Announces Partnership With Save-A-Mother

Every day, over 160 women die in India from pregnancy and complications of child birth – the country’s maternal mortality rate makes up over 20% of total global maternal and child deaths. Despite successful efforts to decrease this number, many rural areas continue to experience over 500 deaths for every 100,000 live births. Save a Mother is a project dedicated to working directly with local communities and districts in Uttar Pradesh, one of the most effected areas in India, to help decrease infant and maternal mortality rates. Any preventable death is one too many.

“Hell On Earth” for Euna Lee and Laura Ling

Two American women are facing 12 years of hard labor for their humanitarian efforts, one of them a mother, and yet the national media has not picked up the story with as much enthusiasm as that of Roxana Saberi. Unfortunately, the nature of the relationship between the United States and North Korea lends itself to a muted media response. Additionally, the so-called Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has established a record of unpredictable and hostile behavior, most recently with walking out of UN negotiations, restarting it’s nuclear program, testing new intermediate-range missiles, and detonating its largest-ever nuclear device (and that’s just in the last several months). Join Pledge For Moms in an effort to liberate Euna Lee and Laura Ling – sign the petition today!
